I don’t know about you, but when I sit down and look at Facebook or Instagram, I’m bombarded with health and fitness pages. Now, mind you, it’s because I’ve “liked” all those pages and I even have one myself. But, let’s face it, it can get OVERWHELMING! I start to fall into that comparison trap and start feeling guilty about what I’m NOT doing. How completely crazy is that?
In our comparison crazy, social media driven culture, we tend to let guilt rule our feelings and decisions.
- Guilty that we don’t eat right
- Guilty that we’re not working out enough or not doing a more effective exercise plan (according to some “expert”)
- Guilty that we weigh too much
- Guilty that we focus on weight as opposed to some “better” measure
- Guilty that we have muscles
- Guilty that we don’t have muscles
- And on, and on, and on, and on…. You get the idea!
Well, STOP! Stop right there! I’m here to let you know that you have NOTHING to feel guilty about. Reality is not what we see on Facebook or Instagram, reality is, well, REALITY!
I’m pretty sure your friends and mine are not looking at us and thinking all those things I listed about above about us. Our friends are our friends because they love us and support us, no matter our weight, food choices, muscle mass, exercise plan, number on the scale…!
So, if you want to lose weight, great! Find what works for you, surround yourself with people who will support you, follow social media pages and people who will encourage and motivate you and don’t feel guilty about it! Not about any part of it; health and fitness is a LIFESTYLE, a journey, a process!
If you’re just fine with who you are, AWESOME! Don’t let someone on the screen have the power to make you feel otherwise. Be confident in who you are and LOVE yourself, just as your friends (who exist in reality, remember?!) love you.
If my page or blog has ever made you feel guilty (I can be a little direct…), I’m sorry and I want you to know my goal is always to encourage and motivate in any way that I can. My goal is not to make you feel like you need to change, but rather encourage you if you want to make changes.
Be encouraged, stop comparing yourself to people on social media and, LET GO OF THE GUILT!!
