Hot Body by Monday? Seriously?
Last week I gave you the ultimate secret to long term weight loss success: don’t go on a diet! This week we’re going to look at the other side of the health and fitness equation: exercise! Can we really obtain our health and fitness goals in a few days or weeks?
It’s on the Cover of a Fitness Magazine, So it Must Be True, Right?
Fitness magazines are a great resource for exercise ideas, nutritional advise, and recipes. The problem I have is the outlandish claims that are splashed on the cover of nearly every health and fitness magazine on the rack. So, I decided to go to the store today and see if I could find any examples of what I am talking about. It took me about 30 seconds to find countless examples. Have you tried to tone every inch in just 4 weeks? The body just doesn’t work that way. There is nothing you can do to tone your entire body in 4 weeks. Muscle development (what gives you the “tone” appearance) takes time and consistency. I’m sure the workout suggested by the magazine is a good workout. However, that’s only one part of the equation.
The Other Side of the Equation: Exercise!
You’ve probably seen this on social media if you follow any health and fitness pages: you can’t out train a bad diet! You’ve also probably heard that abs are made in the kitchen. Both are true, but it takes both sides of the equation, diet and exercise, to get results. While browsing fitness magazines today, I only come across one magazine that makes a results claim that included a meal plan; that’s a little more realistic, but we can do better.
So, how can I develop 6 pack abs and tone every inch of my body? The short and sweet answer is… exercise! You lift weights, incorporate some form of cardiovascular training into your routine, you nail it day in and day out in the kitchen with great nutrition to support your goals, and you do all of it over and over again! You develop good habits and you stick with them. Consistency is the name of the game. There are no quick fixes, no magic workouts, and no secrets!
I’m not saying toss all your fitness magazines. I happen to love them. I get a lot of great workout ideas, tips, and recipes from those magazines. If you’ve tried one of these magazine workouts and didn’t get results; take heart. Keep at it. Combine that great workout with great nutrition, time, and consistency and you will get results. Don’t give up! Work at developing a fit and active lifestyle! In the long run, that’s what will get you the results you want and help you keep them!
